Mother's Day Dandelions - Painting A Day by Darren Maurer

6" x 8"
Last year before Mother's Day I painted two dandelions. I wanted to paint some again this year. When I see these bright yellow flowers in the spring I can remember picking them as a kid and bringing them in the house for my mother. They would sit in a vase for awhile until they wilted away and a few days later I would pick some more. Dandelions, kids, and mothers should always go together. This is painting 152 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold

Hershey's Kisses - Painting A Day by Darren Maurer

6" x 8"

I was trying think of a subject to paint today while I was unwrapping some Hershey's Kisses. The best ideas are usually right in front of you. If you over think the ideas for a painting you will miss the best ideas that are in front of you. I added the one wrapped in red foil to add some contrast to the silver ones. Last Slice of Pizza - Painting A Day by Darren Maurer

6" x 8"

We had a pizza tonight for our dinner. I wanted to paint the last piece for my painting today. I had to resist finishing off this piece of pizza until the painting was almost finished. The background is a tone of purple which makes the inside of the box and pizza slice look very warm. I like the grease spots inside the box. This is painting 150 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold (Click Here to See the Auction Results)

Morning Coffee & Jumble Puzzle - Painting A Day by Darren Maurer

6" x 8"

I wanted to do this painting along with the coffee and crossword puzzle painting a couple of weeks ago. I didn't get it finished in time due to some commissions I had to finish. It is a very limited palette other than the yellow #2 pencil adding an interest point of color. I tried to capture the reflection again in the coffee cup and the Jumble is more complex than a crossword puzzle. The reflection is a mirror image on a curved surface. This is painting 149 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold (Click Here to See Auction Results)

Peanut m&m's #2 - Daily Painting A Day by Darren Maurer

7" x 9"

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and could be with family or friends. It was a perfect day in Sioux City, Iowa.
I have been experimenting with some different ideas for some larger paintings and have been using my miniatures paintings as studies. Here I am painting candy again. What's up with that???? I like the composition on this painting. The bag seems to really have a three dimensional feel to it and I can almost feel the hard shiny candy coating on the m&m's. This is painting 148 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold (Click Here to See Auction Results)

Toast & Jam - Daily Painting A Day by Darren Maurer

5" x 7"

This is the other commission painting I wrote about in the post below of the Cordial Cherry. My client's mother was known for her toast and jam and he was instantly reminded of her when he saw my other painting of toast and jam. (#32, April 23, 2006) This painting and the cordial cherry below are for his sister in memory of their parents. There isn't a better feeling for an artist than when their artwork makes such an impression on someone. I am honored to have these two siblings owning these four paintings. This is painting 147 in my Painting A Day Series. Commission Painting - Sold.

Monopoly Go To Jail #2 - Painting A Day by Darren Maurer

6" x 8"

I received an email after I posted the other Passing Go Monopoly painting suggesting the Go To Jail corner with the race car. I had previously painted this idea but decided to try it again. This painting is cropped tighter than the other one and the lit from a different direction. I'm finding that I like the tightly cropped paintings more in some instances. It leaves me and hopefully you wondering and imagining what else is going on just outside the frame of the painting. This painting 146 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold.
