Midwestern Highway by Darren Maurer

8" x 10"
Here is a typical sight when driving the many two lane highways across the Midwestern United States. I really liked how this old grain elevator was catching the light from the setting sun. The light cast a warm glow on the steel and the landscape around it. This is painting 71 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold.

Fishing Bobber by Darren Maurer

5" x 7"
As I've mentioned before on my blog, I like to fish. As an adult I probably tend to make fishing more complicated than it really is. All you are really trying to do is outsmart a fish. How tough could that be, right? Our huge brain against a tiny spec of grey matter working for the fish. Anyway, fishing is really a pretty simple thing to do and the sight of an old red and white clip on bobber always reminds me of the simple fishing I did as a kid. This is an actual bobber from a very old tackle box. Does it remind you of anyone or take you somewhere far away? This is painting 70 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold

Orange Slices by Darren Maurer

5" x 7"
I happened to catch these slices of an orange exactly like this on a cutting board my wife was using. I asked her not to move them because they were perfect for a painting. Sometimes when things are set up for a still life in a studio setting they lose their spontaneous feel. I liked this because this is how they fell when the slicing was finished. This is painting 69 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold

Hostess Ho Ho - by Darren Maurer

5" x 7"
I think we've had enough healthy food paintings for awhile so I decided to paint another one of my all time favorites. The hostess Ho Ho. How could someone come up with a snack food more perfect this these little cakes with frosting rolled into the middle and then covered with chocolate??? I'll tell you, it won't happen! Enjoy. This is painting 68 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Available $100

Bean Field by Darren Maurer

8" x 10"
This bean field isn't far from my home. I have a thing with crop rows several of my artist friends tell me. I don't know why, but they are cool. As a kid I can remember riding in the backseat of our family car across Nebraska to either one of my grandparents' farms and watching the crop rows go by through the window as we cruised along Interstate 80. I always liked the perspective they offered all pointing to a vanishing point on the Nebraska horizon. This is painting 67 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold

Sun Glasses by Darren Maurer

5" x 7"
I found these sun glasses in a box of my junk a few days ago. The green glass lenses were screaming to be included in the daily painting series. This is painting 66 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold

Mango by Darren Maurer

5" x 7"
This piece of fruit was four different colors. The array of colors presented a challenge to make everything work and look realistic when the painting was finished. This piece is impressionistic with lots of brush work visable on the original. I can't believe this is painting 65 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold

Nebraska Sandhills by Darren Maurer

8" x 8"
This is a little landscape of the Nebraska Sandhills that I painted today. I just returned last week from a five day fishing trip at the Valentine National Wildlife Refuge south of Valentine, Nebraska. I have been fishing this area for the past 25 plus years and it is one of my favorite places on earth. This is Nebraska's big sky country and I purposely painted the sky towering over a field of native grasses and wild flowers.. This painting would hit a soft spot of anyone from Nebraska. I am offering this painting for sale on the blog only. This is painting 64 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold

Grape Bowl by Darren Maurer

8" x 8"
This painting is slightly larger than all of my other miniatures. I wanted to try a square shape instead of the rectangular shaped paintings that I have been completing. This is the same bunch of grapes that the subjects for my painting entitled "Three Grapes" came from. Red grapes are quite an array of subtle tones of colors when you really study them. The various tones probably won't show on everyone's computer monitor. I am very happy with the finished product of this piece. This is painting 63 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold

Cantaloupe by Darren Maurer

5" x 7"
This is actually the painting for yesterday. (Thursday) I wasn't able to finish it last night and had to finish it today. The subtle oranges in the cantaloupe needed an adjustment by a process known in painting as glazing. A thin layer of paint is applied over dry paint to slightly change the color. This is painting 62 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold

Three Grapes by Darren Maurer

4" x 6"
We had grapes with dinner tonight and I decided to paint three of them together. They looked like they were lit from within when the natural sunlight was hitting them from a window. This is painting 61 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold.

Misty Meadow by Darren Maurer

11" x 14"
This painting doesn't really qualify as a Miniature Masterpiece, but I'm going to post it anyway. The location was a meadow in Wyoming on a misty morning and I tried to capture that wet early morning feeling in this piece. I can look at it and feel the stillness of the beginning of the day. I am listing it on ebay at the same starting bid as the miniatures and it will be one of the rare listings of a painting this size. I'm not going to assign a number to this painting because it is too large to be considered a miniature. Painting Not Available

Watermelons by Darren Maurer

6" x 8"
I saw these watermelons at our local grocery store produce department. They were stacked in cardboard boxes and positioned right toward the front of the store. Watermelons always remind me of summer and eating the slices of melon outside and spitting the seeds on the ground. It remains one of my favorite foods of summer. This is painting 60 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold
