These cherries looked so cool to me in the sunlight. I really liked the strong long shadows they were casting. I love cherries and summer means cherries so I will more than likely be painting more pieces with cherries as subjects. I am posting this painting on eBay. I haven't been able to post any paintings for sale on eBay for awhile now due to a large number of commission paintings being ordered. Avocado Daily Painting by Darren Maurer

I decided to paint a split avocado on an orange colored surface. I really like how it makes the greens in the avocado so intense. This makes the eighth miniature commission painting I have finished during the month of May. I did not post one of the paintings online at the request of my client but my last seven blog posts have all been commission pieces. Commission work is very challenging to me. Usually the client is asking for a specific subject matter and then my job as the artist is to make it interesting. I recieved orders for two more commission pieces last week and will start them soon. I will be painting a few pieces for eBay auctions as well. This is painting 220 in my Painting A Day Series. Fresh Farm Egg by Darren Maurer

Here is another commission painting finished. We recently bought some farm fresh eggs and I used one as a model for this painting. My client had seen some of my other paintings of raw eggs and decided to have one of her own. I really like painting these. I think it would be fun to paint as many as possible over a brief period of time and then post them all at the same time. This painting 219 in Painting A Day Series. Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich by Darren Maurer

I'm on a roll! I have been working on several commission paintings over the past few weeks and I finished another one tonight. This painting shows yet another look at the all time favorite Darren Maurer sandwich, the PB&J. The jelly looks so cool after the little crisp white highlights are added to it. I have to contain myself throughout the entire painting to not put them on until the end. This is painting 218 in my Painting A Day Series. This painting is a Sold commission piece.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries by Darren Maurer

Here is another one of the commission paintings finished. I'm still amazed by the color of chocolate. My client sent the correct combination of different chocolate chips for the recipe to make the chocolate mixture. I just heated it until it liqufied and then dipped the washed but dry strawberries into the mix. My client uses a cookie sheet covered with wax paper when she makes these. Painting and capturing the color and texture of the wax paper was as much fun as painting the strawberries. This is painting 217 in my Painting A Day Series. Champagne and Crystal by Darren Maurer

Another commission painting finished! Painting the many facets of the cut crystal champagne glass was challenging enough. I painting this piece with my eyes squinted shut most of the time. When you looking at your still life set up with your eyes squinted it forces you to see the shape and color and not get hung up on small unimportant details. Little details can be added right at the end of the painting but the shape, structure and color of the objects is the most important part of the piece to get a nice likeness of the still life. I cropped off the top and bottom of the bottle but it is still unmistakably a champagne bottle. I did add the small details of the bubbles in the champagne at the end and they look so cool. Here is another of the several commission paintings I have been working on. I enjoy working on commission paintings for people but they do take me more time to complete due to the specific subject that must usually be researched or extra time searching for props. This is a commission painting that was inspired by my earlier Green Eggs and Ham painting. My client wanted two fried eggs shown with the book. I worked with a few different compositions with the book and eggs. I decided on this composition because I felt it focused on the book and the eggs are a secondary focal point.
