Update

I have been working on some commission pieces and before that I spent much of my time getting ready for a showing that was on December 14th. I am spending a few days over Christmas with some family and I should return to my easel recharged and ready to go again. I have been making notes for some future miniature paintings and I can't wait to start working on them. I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

Salt Water Taffy by Darren Maurer

6" x 6"
Salt water taffy is a kind of taffy originally produced and marketed in the Atlantic City, New Jersey area beginning in the late 19th century. It is still popular today and one of my all time favorite candies. I decided to use a couple of pieces as a subject in one of my Daily Paintings and found it was more difficult than I thought it would be. Aren't they all more difficult than I thought they would be though? I am happy with the results and this is painting 128 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold.

Hot Cocoa (Chocolate) by Darren Maurer

8" x 8"
Here is a cup of hot cocoa. As kids we always called it hot chocolate and I loved having a cup of it after being outdoors sledding or scooping snow. The bubbles are my favorite part of this painting. One thing I have tried to do from the beginning of this blog is to try and capture the extraordinary out of the ordinary things we see each day. Bubbles on the surface of hot chocolate are extraordinary. This is painting 127 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold

Apple Top by Darren Maurer

5" x 7"
I have been thinking about experimenting with some different compositions and lighting effects. This is one of an apple that I thought showed the fruit in a different way. The water droplets add some interest points. Little water droplets on fruit are remarkable when you look close. This is painting 126 in my Painting A Day Series. Painting Sold
